GenghisCon XXXII
Feb. 22nd, 2011 02:30 pmThe con was full of win. I roleplayed all nine slots.
The menu for the weekend consisted of Call of Cthulhu, four sessions of Pathfinder RPG, Champions 6th Edition, Urban Fantasy HERO, and two sessions of playtesting Goodman Games' DCC (Dungeon Crawl Classics) RPG.
The highlight of the con for me was the afternoon session of Friday. It was the second session of DCC RPG for me. The first session had been the morning session. That four hours in the afternoon was the most intensely personal and enthralling roleplaying experience of my entire gaming life. My character, Gareth One-Handed, a Chaotic Evil thief ended up being the main driver of the plot. (After the session had ended, I learned from Harley Stroh, the GM, that the plot had been off-the-cuff and completely driven by the PCs.) I was the eye of the storm. It was amazing. My character was driven to fulfill the task of taking a grimore of great evil to the Black Gate at the bidding of the Goddess of Death. The other players were also absolutely fabulous in their roleplaying. They were paid to get me to the Black Gate alive with the book. I didn't just drag them along, they supported me and followed me. Then at the end they were given the choice, turn my character with the book over to certain death and live, or continue to side with me and possibly share in my character's doom. The outcome was amazing. All the characters survived the final battle. However, at the end the rest of the party did turn on me in the hopes of not destroying the world and possibly saving my character's immortal soul. It was true group storytelling. We wrote our own adventure, and it was glorious. I keep reliving it in my mind.
The con was full of win. I can't wait for the next one.
